COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Interior Design program at Humber is structured across eight semesters, guiding students through a comprehensive and practical learning journey. In Semester 1, students are introduced to foundational courses such as Interior Design Studio 1, Design Communications 1, Design Theory 1, and Human Factors, along with a Degree Breadth Elective. Semester 2 builds on this foundation with Sustainable Practices, Interior Design Studio 2, Design Communications 2, Interior Detailing 1, and Design and Material Culture. Semester 3 deepens the study with Contemporary Design, Interior Design Studio 3, Design Communications 3, Interior Detailing 2, Building Technology 1, and Quantitative Research Methods. In Semester 4, students explore Interior Design Studio 4, Design Communications 4, Ontario Building Regulations, Careers and Ethics in Design 1, Qualitative Research Methods, and a Breadth Elective. Semester 5 focuses on case studies and advanced design applications through Interior Design Studio 5, Interior Detailing 3, Building Technology 2, Design Communications 5, and a Professional Practice course (INTD 8888), plus a Breadth Elective. Semester 6 introduces Design Theory 2, Interior Design Studio 6, Site Studies, Design Communications 6, and another Breadth Elective. A mandatory Field Experience in Semester 6C allows students to gain industry exposure. In Semester 7, students undertake advanced learning with Interdisciplinary Practice, Interior Design Studio 7, Interior Detailing 4, and begin their Senior Level Thesis Project 1, along with a Breadth Elective. Finally, Semester 8 concludes the academic journey with Senior Level Thesis Project 2, Careers and Ethics in Design 2, Independent Study Project, and two Degree Breadth Electives. This curriculum is designed to develop creative, technical, and professional competencies, providing graduates with the tools and experiences needed for a successful career in interior design.
