COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering – Sustainable Building Engineering program begins with a common first-year platform that provides foundational knowledge in mathematics, physics, communication, and core engineering principles through courses such as Linear Algebra, Calculus, Physics, and Introduction to Engineering. In the second year, students begin specialized study with courses including Infrastructure and Building Science, Environmental Chemistry, Sustainable Building Design Principles, Statics, and Community-Centred Engineering. Technical skills are further developed in Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Digital Design, Building Structures, Fluid and Soil Mechanics. Third-year coursework deepens understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in buildings, energy systems and modelling, building energy loads, engineering economics, and project preparation. The sixth semester introduces Sustainable Communities Design, HVAC System Design, Energy Auditing, Codes and Standards, Law and Ethics, and Project Management. Three mandatory co-op terms provide immersive industry experience. In the final year, students complete advanced topics in Digital Design, Construction Estimating, Structural Design, and Building Automation Systems, culminating in a two-part Capstone Project. Courses in Resilience, Construction Management, and an elective in emerging technologies like MicroGrid Application or Autonomous Vehicles allow students to tailor their learning to future-focused areas. Degree Breadth Electives throughout the program ensure a well-rounded education. This rigorous curriculum blends theory, practice, and industry exposure, preparing graduates for leadership roles in sustainable building design, energy-efficient systems, and green construction practices.
