COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Creative and Professional Writing program offers a comprehensive and dynamic curriculum designed to develop your skills as a versatile writer across multiple genres and media platforms. In the first semester, you begin with foundational courses such as Introduction to Creative Writing, Writing Fundamentals, Social Media, and Photography Fundamentals, complemented by a degree breadth elective. The second semester builds on these skills with courses in video and audio content creation, media writing, multiplatform storytelling, and communications law, alongside specialized workshops in poetry or fiction and nonfiction storytelling. As you progress to semesters three and four, the focus deepens with creative writing labs, inclusive writing practices, project management, and courses aimed at finding your unique voice and enhancing your reading-to-write skills, while continuing degree breadth studies. In semesters five and six, you refine your storytelling and editing abilities, explore emerging voices and hybrid forms, and engage in specialized workshops such as feature writing, writing for children, playwriting, and graphic novels, with the opportunity for field experience to gain practical insight. The final year includes advanced courses in arts management, strategic communication, and targeted writing specialties such as screenwriting, content marketing, and ghostwriting. Your degree culminates with a capstone mentorship, guiding you through the development of a book-length manuscript, entrepreneurial expertise in the business of writing, and book publishing fundamentals, alongside continued elective studies. Throughout the program, you are encouraged to develop your craft independently and collaboratively, preparing you for a professional writing career in diverse fields such as publishing, media, marketing, and beyond.
