COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Commerce – Finance degree program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to build a strong foundation in business and finance principles. In the first semester, students take introductory courses in financial accounting, microeconomics, business law, marketing, and a degree breadth elective, establishing essential business knowledge. The second semester continues with business information systems, business communications, macroeconomics, organizational behaviour, and statistics for business, providing key skills for analytical and managerial roles. In the third semester, the focus shifts to financial management and operations management, alongside business and degree breadth electives. The fourth semester includes management accounting, consumer credit, human resources management, and additional breadth electives to broaden understanding. The fifth semester emphasizes research methods, career development, financial statement analysis, quantitative methods for finance, retirement planning, and Canadian investment securities, equipping students with critical financial analysis skills. The sixth semester covers corporate issuers, equity investments, risk management and estate planning, Canadian investment securities 2, taxation, and offers a field experience course for practical industry exposure. In the seventh semester, students study fixed income, ethics and standards in finance, and strategic management, alongside degree breadth electives, enhancing ethical and strategic decision-making abilities. The final semester focuses on data analytics and fintech, portfolio management and alternative investments, advanced financial planning, and senior-level business projects or professional education for financial planning, providing advanced knowledge and practical application. Throughout the program, students develop expertise in financial strategies, investment analysis, risk management, and financial planning, preparing them for successful careers in the evolving finance industry.
