COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Behavioural Science degree at Humber is structured across eight semesters to provide a comprehensive education in behavioural science, with a strong focus on applied behaviour analysis, cognitive behavioural approaches, psychology, and counselling. In Semester 1, students are introduced to foundational topics including applied behaviour analysis, communication, equity and inclusion, psychology, and counselling skills. Semester 2 builds on this with cognitive behavioural approaches, developmental psychology, family dynamics, dual diagnosis, and quantitative research methods. In Semester 3, the curriculum deepens with courses in advanced applied behaviour analysis, behavioural assessment, ethics and professionalism, autism spectrum disorders, and one breadth elective. Semester 4 explores special populations such as those affected by ADHD, FASD, acquired brain injury, and involvement in corrections, along with professional practice, mental health across the lifespan, qualitative research, and two breadth electives. Semester 5 includes behavioural science research, the application of equity, diversity and inclusion in ABA, aging and dementia, behavioural pharmacology, and a breadth elective. In Semester 6, students take courses in interprofessional collaboration, addictions, group counselling, and two electives, followed by a work-integrated learning placement through the field experience course. Semester 7 focuses on advanced knowledge and application through the senior thesis project part one, advanced behavioural programming, organizational behaviour, individual counselling, and one elective. The final semester, Semester 8, completes the thesis with a second capstone course and includes consultation skills, special topics in behavioural analysis, issues in behavioural psychology, and one final breadth elective. Throughout the program, students gain valuable experience in research, counselling, ethics, and working with diverse populations, preparing them for careers in behavioural science and for professional roles under the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. The program emphasizes critical thinking, professional collaboration, leadership, and evidence-based practice.
