COURSE CURRICULUM

Humber’s Journalism program offers a comprehensive curriculum that equips students with essential skills in news reporting, storytelling, and multimedia production across various platforms. In the first semester, students build a foundation with courses in news fundamentals, storytelling techniques, and photojournalism alongside an introduction to arts and sciences. The second semester advances skills with news reporting, media law and ethics, on-air writing, and digital design, complemented by college-level reading and writing. The third semester deepens reporting expertise with investigative journalism, TV and radio news reporting, and magazine writing. In the fourth semester, students explore community reporting, data journalism, magazine editing and production, TV news and video production, radio news, and cultural writing. The final two semesters emphasize professional practice, entrepreneurial journalism, field experience, and specialized electives, allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience using industry-standard tools and participate in real-world projects, including working with Humber’s media outlets. This structured progression ensures graduates are well-prepared to enter the dynamic field of journalism with strong reporting skills, ethical awareness, and multimedia proficiency to tell impactful stories across diverse platforms.
