COURSE CURRICULUM

The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology advanced diploma program is structured over six semesters, providing comprehensive training in HVAC systems with a strong focus on energy efficiency and industry standards. In the first semester, students are introduced to fundamental concepts through courses such as Refrigeration 1, HVAC Controls 1, Engineering Practices, Installation Practices, and Gas Code, alongside technical mathematics and skilled trades communication. The second semester builds on this foundation with Refrigeration 2, HVAC Controls 2, Oil Code, Advanced Piping Systems, and continued technical mathematics and professional communication development. By the third semester, the curriculum advances to Residential Systems Design, Refrigeration 3, Mechanical Ventilation, HVAC Controls 3, and Decorative Heating Applications, coupled with a general elective. The fourth semester focuses on Refrigeration 4, Heating Systems and Add-Ons, Hydronic Systems, Air Handling and Burners, and Combustion Venting, plus another general elective. The final two semesters emphasize energy management and advanced system design, including courses in ESE Energy Management Designs, DDC Controls, HVAC Estimating, AutoCAD, Software Applications, Commercial System Design, Advanced Building Systems, Technical Reporting, and Combo-Commissioning. This progressive curriculum equips students with practical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary for designing, evaluating, and optimizing HVAC systems in commercial and industrial environments, ensuring graduates are prepared to meet modern energy efficiency standards and industry demands.
