COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electrical Engineering Technology – Control Systems advanced diploma program spans six semesters, offering a well-rounded curriculum that blends theory and hands-on experience. In the first semester, students study logic fundamentals, robotics introduction, electric circuits, programming fundamentals, technical mathematics, and technical reading and writing skills. The second semester deepens knowledge with courses in electronic devices and circuits, electrical CAD, AC circuits, process instruments, and advanced mathematics and workplace writing. Semester three introduces calculus, DC equipment and controls, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), power systems, industrial electronics, and an arts and sciences elective. The fourth semester covers the Canadian Electrical Code, electrical circuit analysis, automatic controls, fundamentals of power distribution, advanced PLCs, sensors and actuators, and a general elective. In the fifth semester, students learn applied calculus, advanced power systems, communications and PLC network systems, power electronics, operator interface design and control, and complete their first technical project. The final semester focuses on control systems, technical project completion, control applications using PLCs, power distribution, protection and control, variable frequency drives, motor controls, applied statistics, and another general elective. This comprehensive program ensures graduates develop critical skills in electrical circuits, automation, power systems, control applications, and project management, preparing them for diverse roles in industries focused on automation, renewable energy, and smart grid technologies.
