COURSE CURRICULUM

The Construction Engineering Technology program spans six semesters, combining foundational carpentry skills with advanced construction engineering and project management knowledge. In Semester 1, students are introduced to general carpentry safety, hand tools, formwork and concrete structures, construction plans and Revit, and carpentry practice, along with developing writing skills for the skilled trades. Semester 2 covers residential framing, building envelope systems, power tools and equipment, construction estimating and layout, and further hands-on carpentry practice, supported by general education and essential building mathematics. Semester 3 introduces complex topics such as equal and unequal sloped roofs, interior finishes, construction layout principles, ICI (industrial, commercial, institutional) plans and codes, and continues with carpentry practice and construction mathematics. In Semester 4, the curriculum focuses on stair and ramp theory and practice, ICI construction methods, exterior finishes, and carpentry practice, paired with professional communication skills and a general elective. Semester 5 shifts into advanced studies, including building science, Revit-based planning and scheduling, construction law, steel construction technology, building services (electrical and mechanical), quantity costing, and construction project management from a contractual viewpoint. In Semester 6, students delve into applied building science, cost control in project management, practical construction applications, technical research reporting, sustainable building practices, and construction business management, with a final general elective. This well-rounded program prepares graduates for leadership and technical roles across various sectors in the construction industry.
