COURSE CURRICULUM

Humber’s Architectural Technology advanced diploma program delivers a comprehensive six-semester curriculum designed to equip students with in-demand skills for the building design and construction industry. In Semester 1, students build foundational knowledge in AutoCAD, residential drafting and detailing, visual representation, wood construction methods, and technical writing. Semester 2 expands into steel and masonry construction, structural principles, Ontario Building Code, and the introduction of Building Information Modeling (BIM) using Revit. Semester 3 covers mass timber construction, advanced BIM, and building science, while also integrating general education. Semester 4 focuses on sustainable design, concrete materials and detailing, and further BIM development, alongside presentation software tools. In Semester 5, students study adaptive reuse, environmental systems, contract administration, site planning, and choose an architectural elective. The final semester deepens practical skills with courses in estimating, specification writing, hybrid construction detailing, and project management, with two additional architectural electives to tailor learning to career interests. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience with industry-standard software and technologies, while developing strong skills in drafting, detailing, sustainable construction, and project coordination. Graduates are prepared for careers in architectural firms, construction companies, and other areas of the built environment, with a strong foundation in both traditional practices and emerging sustainable methodologies.
