COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Laboratory Technology advanced diploma program spans seven semesters, offering a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for professional practice as registered medical laboratory technologists. In the first semester, students build foundational knowledge with courses in anatomy and physiology, specimen collection, laboratory tools and safety, clinical chemistry, and an introduction to medical laboratory sciences. The second semester deepens understanding with advanced anatomy, clinical microbiology, histotechnology, hematology, and essential mathematics and communication skills tailored for medical lab professionals. The third and fourth semesters focus on advanced topics such as microanatomy, transfusion medicine, and successive levels of clinical chemistry, microbiology, hematology, and histotechnology, paired with mandatory professional practicums that provide hands-on clinical experience. The fifth semester introduces interprofessional collaboration, quality management, and further specialization in clinical microbiology and chemistry, alongside another practicum. In the sixth semester, students study advanced hematology, histotechnology, molecular diagnostics, and cutting-edge instrumentation, supported by continued clinical placements to hone practical skills. The final seventh semester focuses on a comprehensive review and an extensive practicum to consolidate knowledge and experience. Throughout the program, students integrate theoretical learning with practical application in real-world healthcare settings, ensuring readiness to operate sophisticated laboratory equipment and perform critical analyses accurately and efficiently.
