COURSE CURRICULUM

The Museum and Gallery Studies program’s planned course sequence for full-time Fall intake offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to build foundational and advanced skills for museum and gallery careers. In Semester 1, students engage in seven courses totaling 294 hours, including Curatorial Practices, Collection Management, Exhibition Design, Museum and Gallery Management, Preventative Conservation Techniques, Public Engagement in Museums and Galleries, and Visual Technologies. These courses provide essential knowledge and practical skills in managing collections, designing exhibitions, and utilizing visual technologies to enhance public experiences. Semester 2 consists of six courses totaling 252 hours, focusing on Technical Practices, Educational Programming and Delivery, Advanced Museum and Gallery Management, Advanced Collection Management, Research Methods for Museums and Galleries, and Advanced Exhibition Design. This semester deepens students’ expertise in technical skills, educational outreach, management, and research relevant to museums and galleries. After completing academic coursework, students participate in a 480-hour co-op work term designed to provide real-world experience in professional museum or gallery settings. This practical placement allows students to apply their learned knowledge and skills in authentic environments, build industry connections, and prepare for their future careers. The total hours for the program, including coursework and co-op, amount to 1,278 hours.
