COURSE CURRICULUM

The Communication Disorders Assistant (CDA) program offers a structured plan of study designed for full-time students entering in the Fall intake. In Semester 1, students complete foundational courses totaling 294 hours, covering topics such as speech sound disorders, child language development and intervention supports, augmentative and alternative communication, communication disorders in adults, and an introduction to audiology and clinical practice. These courses establish a strong theoretical base and essential skills needed for clinical work. Semester 2 focuses exclusively on practical experience through two extensive field practicums totaling 490 hours, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-world treatment settings under professional supervision. In Semester 3, students return to advanced coursework totaling 252 hours, which deepens their expertise in voice and fluency, language, learning and literacy, advanced augmentative communication technologies, adult communication disorders, amplification systems, and advanced clinical theory and practice. This balanced approach between theory and hands-on experience equips students with the comprehensive knowledge and skills required to effectively support speech-language pathologists and audiologists in diverse clinical environments. Overall, the program totals 1,036 hours, preparing graduates to confidently contribute as valuable members of communication disorder therapy teams.
