COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Laboratory Technology program follows a comprehensive, full-time course sequence beginning in the Fall, totaling 1,820 hours across six semesters. In Semester 1, students complete 294 hours of foundational studies, including Anatomy, Physiology and Medical Terminology, Molecular Techniques, Medical Laboratory Mathematics, Quality Assurance and Control, Lab Equipment and Safety, along with a communication and general education course. Semester 2 builds on these foundations with 266 hours in Specimen Collection, Histology and Cytology, and core lab techniques in Hematology, Microbiology, Chemistry, and an Introduction to Transfusion Science. Semesters 3 and 4 are intensive, each comprising 350 hours focused on clinical specialties—Microbiology, Chemistry, Histotechnology, Hematology, and Transfusion Science—through both theory and lab components. In Semester 5, students complete 280 hours, including a Comprehensive Review, their first Clinical Placement (210 hours), and a general education course. Semester 6 mirrors this structure with another 280 hours including a second Clinical Placement (210 hours), a final Comprehensive Review, and a general education course. This progression ensures students develop strong theoretical knowledge and critical hands-on experience in real-world settings, preparing them to meet national certification requirements and succeed as competent, precise, and ethical Medical Laboratory Technologists in various healthcare environments.
