COURSE CURRICULUM

The program’s full-time Fall intake follows a structured sequence of courses designed to develop comprehensive marine navigation skills. In Semester 1, students focus on foundational topics such as Practical Seamanship, Radar Navigation, Chartwork, Seamanship, Marine Technology Navigation Mathematics, Meteorology, and Physics, totaling 365 hours. Semester 2 builds on these basics with courses in Microcomputer Applications, Ship Construction, Celestial Navigation, Ship Master's Business, Navigation Safety, Electronic Positioning Systems, and Maritime Communication, alongside a communications course, for 371 hours. Semester 3 introduces Marine Electricity Fundamentals, Radar Plotting, Cargo Work, Advanced Navigation Safety, Seamanship, General Ship Knowledge, Meteorology, and Technical Communication, totaling 339 hours. Semester 4 emphasizes Celestial Navigation, Chartwork, Stability, Basic Engineering Knowledge, Applied Mechanics, and Meteorology for 368 hours. Semester 5 deepens knowledge with advanced Celestial Navigation, Cargo Work, Stability, General Ship Knowledge, Navigation Safety, and Navigation Systems, totaling 337 hours. In Semester 6, students study Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS), Leadership, Advanced Engineering Knowledge, Signals and Communications, Ship Master's Business, and Simulated Navigation, completing 276 hours. The program includes three co-op work terms totaling 2,920 hours, providing essential hands-on marine navigation experience, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for careers in maritime navigation and safety.
