COURSE CURRICULUM

The Marine Engineering Technology program’s full-time Fall intake follows a carefully structured course sequence designed to build comprehensive skills and knowledge across seven semesters, with co-op work terms integrated after the third and fourth semesters. In Semester 1, students study foundational subjects such as Fuel Combustion Chemistry, Basic Engineering Science, Marine Plant Energy Distribution, Marine Systems Blueprint, and Marine Auxiliary Systems, alongside mathematics and communications courses, totaling 511 hours. Semester 2 deepens technical expertise with Industrial Chemistry, Basic Electrical and Control Engineering, Marine Auxiliary Steam Plants, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Machining, and Applied Mechanics, accounting for 528 hours. Semester 3 focuses on Ship Construction, Advanced Marine Power Plants, Watchkeeping, and Welding, totaling 372 hours. Semester 4 covers Thermodynamics, Advanced Electrical Engineering, Heating and Ventilation, Stability, Computer Applications, Leadership, and Maritime Business, with 427 hours. Semester 5 emphasizes Shipboard Electrical Skills, Power Plant Studies, Control Strategies, and Technical Communication (252 hours). The final semesters (6 and 7) address Power Plant Auxiliaries Management, Advanced Thermodynamics, Automation, Electrical Machines Management, Naval Architecture, and Maritime Law, with 477 and 442 hours respectively. Two co-op work terms totaling 1,680 hours provide practical marine engineering experience, occurring after Semesters 3 and 4. This comprehensive curriculum prepares students for dynamic careers in marine engineering with a total of 4,689 hours of instruction and work experience.
