COURSE CURRICULUM

The program’s full-time Fall intake is structured over six semesters, blending comprehensive coursework with extensive clinical placements to prepare students for dental hygiene practice. In Semester 1, students study foundational subjects including general and oral microbiology, dental and orofacial anatomy, oral histology, introductory anatomy and physiology, and pre-clinical dental hygiene skills, alongside a communications course, totaling 350 hours. Semester 2 deepens applied oral health promotion, dental radiography, preparation for practice, advanced anatomy and physiology, and pre-clinical dental hygiene with an added general education course, also totaling 350 hours. Semester 3 focuses on pharmacology, periodontics, diet and nutrition, pathophysiology, dental materials, and introduces clinical dental hygiene practice, totaling 350 hours. In Semester 4, students explore oral pathology, health promotion, research methods, diversity and cultural awareness, and continue clinical placements, accumulating 336 hours. Semester 5 covers orthodontic roles, evidence-based practice, advanced periodontics, business practice, advanced clinical placement, and a general education course for a total of 350 hours. Finally, Semester 6 emphasizes community dental hygiene, health policy, indigenous health perspectives, professionalism and ethics, consolidation case studies, and final clinical placements, with an additional general education course, totaling 378 hours. Altogether, the program comprises 2,114 hours, integrating theory, clinical skills, and professional development to prepare students for ethical, culturally sensitive, and evidence-informed dental hygiene practice.
