COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering Technician program offers a comprehensive full-time curriculum designed to prepare students for a career in civil construction and engineering. The program begins with foundational courses such as physics for civil engineering, 2D CAD drafting, construction practices, extended math for construction, and surveying, complemented by communication skills. In the second semester, students advance their knowledge with quantity estimation, material testing, municipal and provincial construction codes, statics, and surveying, alongside continued communication studies. The third semester introduces 3D CAD drafting, construction materials, strength of materials, project management, and general education courses. The fourth semester focuses on geotechnical analysis, site development, stormwater management, building and bridge systems, highway construction, GIS, and geospatial technology, with an additional general education course. In the final two semesters, students deepen their expertise in 3D CAD civil construction, structural analysis, steel design, numerical analysis, project management for civil construction, advanced GIS, heavy construction estimating, soil mechanics, reinforced concrete design, calculus, contract law, ethics, and a technical civil project. The program also includes two co-op work terms, one after semester two and another after semester four, providing valuable hands-on experience in civil engineering work environments. With a total of 1,680 hours combining academics and co-op placements, graduates are well-equipped to contribute effectively to construction projects, working alongside engineers and project managers in the industry.
