COURSE CURRICULUM

The Architectural Technology program spans six semesters, totaling 2,030 instructional hours, complemented by two co-op work terms amounting to 1,120 hours, providing a robust blend of academic learning and real-world industry experience. In Semester 1, students build a foundation in architectural design, drafting, drawing, structural construction technology, surveying, extended construction math, occupational health and safety regulations, and communication, for a total of 350 hours. Semester 2 continues with courses in quantity surveying, residential design, drafting, architectural codes and history, interior construction technology, legal processes under the Ontario Building Code Act, and another communication course, totaling 336 hours. Semester 3 focuses on commercial design, drafting, advanced quantity surveying, codes and standards, building envelope technology, statics, and two general education electives. Semester 4 introduces sustainable design, Building Information Modeling (BIM), building code standards, materials reuse, environmental considerations, strength of materials, project management, and a general education course. In Semester 5, students begin a two-part capstone architectural project and take advanced BIM, structural analysis, site planning, entrepreneurship, contract management, and site specifications. Semester 6 completes the capstone with further BIM training, landscape design, advanced structural analysis, building services, business management, and project costing. The co-op work terms after semesters 4 and 5 enable students to apply their skills in professional settings, enhancing employability.
