COURSE CURRICULUM

The program’s full-time Fall intake is structured over four semesters, designed to progressively build students’ knowledge and skills in social service work. In Semester 1, students take foundational courses such as Human Development Across the Lifespan, Introduction to Social Service Work, Family Sociology, Principles of a Helping Relationship, and Field Placement Preparation, alongside a communications course, totaling 252 hours. Semester 2 focuses on Case Management and Advocacy, Mental Health and Addictions, Social Welfare and Political Ideologies, and Anti-Oppressive Social Service Work, with additional communications and general education courses, amounting to 252 hours. Semester 3 deepens professional practice with Ethics, Professionalism, and Wellness in Social Services, Practical Techniques and Therapeutic Approaches, Community Practice, and a Field Placement Seminar, along with a general education course and a 224-hour field placement, totaling 434 hours. In Semester 4, students advance with courses in Community Development, Consolidating Helping Relationship Techniques, Group Facilitation, and a second Field Placement Seminar, combined with a general education course and a 224-hour field placement, totaling 434 hours. Altogether, the program comprises 1,372 hours, blending classroom learning, practical skills development, and extensive field placements to prepare students for effective and ethical practice in diverse social service settings.
