COURSE CURRICULUM

The Recreation and Leisure Services program follows a structured four-semester full-time plan, starting with foundational courses in technology, research, and program planning alongside communication and general education electives, totaling 252 hours in the first semester. The second semester builds on fitness, financial analysis, marketing, event planning, and recreation across the lifespan, with a focus on dynamic presentations, also totaling 252 hours. In the third semester, students deepen their understanding of sport and recreation administration, arts, culture, heritage, leadership, and inclusive recreation, alongside a general education course and a program option course from Group 1, again totaling 252 hours. The final semester covers outdoor recreation, environmental sustainability, community development, and professional issues, complemented by general education and two program option courses from Groups 2 and 3, completing another 252 hours. The program offers flexibility through elective options such as esports business, therapeutic recreation, social entrepreneurship, and sports tourism, allowing students to tailor their learning to their interests. Additionally, students gain practical experience through a 560-hour co-op work term, typically completed after the second semester, providing hands-on learning in real-world recreation and leisure settings. Overall, the program requires 1,008 academic hours plus the co-op, equipping students with both theoretical knowledge and applied skills for careers in diverse recreation and leisure industries.
