COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graphic Design program is structured over four semesters to provide students with a comprehensive education in visual communication, blending traditional principles with digital design practices. In the first semester, students begin with foundational courses in typography, graphic design, production fundamentals, and digital page layout, gaining essential skills in layout, composition, and the use of industry-standard tools. They also take a communications and a general education course to support broader academic development. In semester two, the focus shifts toward digital skill-building with courses in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and web fundamentals, while continuing their design progression in Graphic Design 2. Semester three emphasizes creative and conceptual growth through courses in digital ad design, drawing and illustration, photographic communication, and a deeper dive into design and studio practice. Students also study the historical context of graphic art, helping to inform their design choices. In the final semester, students prepare for the professional world with courses in professional practices, motion graphics, UI design, and content management for the web. Two advanced studio and design courses round out the term, offering students an opportunity to refine their portfolios and prepare for industry roles. A final general education elective allows further personal or academic enrichment. Across the program, students use professional software and develop the practical, critical thinking, and communication skills required to enter careers in graphic design, web and interactive media, advertising, publishing, and related creative industries. The balance of technical proficiency, creative exploration, and project-based learning ensures graduates leave with a strong portfolio and the ability to meet the evolving demands of employers in the visual communication sector. The program’s progressive curriculum structure supports continuous skill development and professional readiness over its 1050 total hours.
