COURSE CURRICULUM

In the Fitness and Health Promotion program, students engage in a carefully structured four-semester curriculum that blends scientific theory with hands-on practical experience. The program begins in Semester 1 with foundational courses in anatomy, physiology, fitness and wellness, and client counselling. Students also gain experience through a fitness orientation practicum, while communications and general education courses provide essential academic support, for a total of 308 hours. In Semester 2, the focus shifts to applied anatomy, exercise physiology, personal training, nutrition, and lifespan recreation, rounding out to 252 hours. These courses deepen students’ understanding of how the human body responds to exercise and dietary interventions. Semester 3 builds on this knowledge with targeted learning in exercise planning, functional anatomy, injury prevention, and fitness business operations. Additional studies in sport and recreation facility operations and therapeutic recreation, alongside a general education elective, bring the semester total to 294 hours. In the final semester, students complete advanced coursework in exercise techniques, health promotion, and nutrition. Crucially, they also participate in two practicum experiences—one on campus and one in an off-campus setting—designed to refine their real-world skills. With 252 hours in Semester 4, students complete a comprehensive total of 1,106 program hours, graduating well-prepared to begin careers in the health and fitness industry or pursue further education.
