COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Technician program offers a comprehensive, hands-on curriculum that prepares students for entry-level careers in environmental science and technology. Delivered over four semesters, the program begins with foundational courses in environmental science, earth systems, applied mathematics, physics, and workplace safety. In Semester 2, students build on these foundations with courses in biology, applied environmental chemistry, water treatment, geospatial technology (GIS), and applied statistics, alongside a mandatory communications course. A paid co-op work term follows, offering valuable industry experience and networking opportunities. Semester 3 emphasizes practical field skills with courses in ecosystem science, limnology and watershed management, environmental sampling, organic chemistry, and soil properties. Students also gain surveying experience and complete a general education elective. In the final semester, the focus shifts to environmental management and regulatory frameworks, with coursework in environmental assessment, contamination studies, environmental CAD, waste and wastewater treatment, and environmental law and policy. Two general education electives round out the program. With a total of 1162 in-class hours and 560 co-op hours, graduates emerge with strong technical, analytical, and communication skills, along with applied knowledge of environmental systems, regulatory compliance, and monitoring technologies—equipping them for employment in consulting, government, industry, or non-profit sectors.
