COURSE CURRICULUM

This Electrical Engineering Technician program offers a comprehensive mix of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience across four academic semesters and a co-op work term. In the first semester, students build foundational skills in DC circuit fundamentals, technical drafting, technical mathematics, and physical sciences, while also completing communication and general education courses, totaling 266 hours. Semester two deepens technical understanding through courses in CAD electrical circuits, AC circuit fundamentals, and electrical systems and control, alongside continued studies in math, communications, and general education, bringing the total to 280 hours. Following this, students engage in a 560-hour co-op work term, gaining valuable real-world experience and industry contacts. Semester three shifts focus toward practical applications with courses such as electrical machines, CAD electrical layouts, electronic fundamentals, and power transmission and distribution, as well as introductions to robotics and geographic information systems, again totaling 280 hours. In the final semester, students explore advanced topics including microprocessors, programmable logic controllers, preventative maintenance, hydro codes and standards, and digital circuits, complemented by applied statistics and a final general education course, culminating in 308 hours. In total, the program delivers 1134 instructional hours plus 560 co-op hours, preparing students for employment in electrical engineering technician roles.
