COURSE CURRICULUM

The program’s course designed to build foundational knowledge and practical skills in early childhood education over four semesters. In the first semester, students focus on core subjects such as child development from birth to 12 years, foundational principles of early childhood education, supporting inclusive play experiences, creative expression, developing partnerships with families, and exploring STEM and outdoor learning. Students also complete a communications course and a general education course, totaling 322 hours. The second semester emphasizes nurturing infants and toddlers, children’s health and wellness, observation and documentation, programming for school-age children, child development with a focus on inclusivity and diversity, and an introduction to social entrepreneurship, along with additional communications and general education courses, for a total of 336 hours. During the third semester, students deepen their professional practice with preparation for field placements, responsive relationships in diverse communities, social and emotional health, legislation and standards of practice, ethics and advocacy, inclusive learning and play, curriculum development, and another general education course, amounting to 336 hours. The final semester is devoted primarily to field placements, providing hands-on experience in early learning settings. It includes two field placement seminars and two extensive field placements in childcare and kindergarten or unique learning environments, combined with 588 hours of practical experience. Across the program, students develop the knowledge, skills, and practical experience required for successful careers in early childhood education, totaling 1,582 hours of study and practice.
