COURSE CURRICULUM

The program is structured over four semesters,semester 1 includes foundational courses such as Augmentative Communication, Teaching Strategies, Person-Directed Planning, Introduction to Developmental Services, Community Building and Active Living, and Human Lifespan Development, totaling 322 hours. Students also select one communications course and one general education course during registration. In Semester 2, students study Body Systems and Disorders, Social Relationships, Developmental Disabilities, Intervention Strategies, Dual Diagnosis, and Health Skills, alongside additional communications and general education courses, again totaling 322 hours. Semester 3 continues with Supportive Counselling, Positive Behavioural Supports, Professional Practice and Field Preparation, Developmental Services: Issues and Trends, Gerontology in Developmental Services, Spectrum Disorders, and Pharmacology and Medication Administration, plus a general education course, totaling 322 hours. Semester 4 is dedicated to hands-on learning through two field placements, Field Placement A and Field Placement B, each 280 hours, providing a total of 560 hours. These placements allow students to apply their acquired skills in real-world settings and gain practical experience. Overall, the program totals 1526 hours, balancing theoretical knowledge with experiential learning to prepare students for careers in developmental services.
