COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Systems Technician – Network Systems program follows a structured progression over four semesters, complemented by a co-op work term. In Semester 1, students are introduced to core technical skills through courses in networking essentials, Windows and Linux system administration, mathematics for computing, communication, and a general education elective, totaling 252 hours. Semester 2 advances into virtualization, Linux network administration, routing and switching essentials, Windows Server administration, and scripting with Python, alongside another communications course. In Semester 3, students deepen their technical expertise with relational databases, Linux automation, introductory cybersecurity, network scaling, and cloud computing, along with a general education elective. Semester 4 covers wireless networking, advanced cloud computing, Windows Server management with PowerShell, and project management in IT. Students also choose a program option course and complete one more general education course. Program options may include The Mainframe Environment, Internet of Things using Arduino, Data Centre Technologies, or Advanced Databases. A mandatory co-op work term (490 hours) provides hands-on industry experience between the academic semesters, enabling students to apply technical skills in a real-world setting. The full-time program totals 1,008 instructional hours plus 490 co-op hours, offering a strong balance of theoretical knowledge and practical application.
