COURSE CURRICULUM

The program providing a comprehensive and progressive learning experience. In Semester 1, students take foundational courses including Introduction to Community Justice and Corrections, Introduction to Law and Correctional Legislation, and Wellness and Resilience in Community Justice and Correction, along with Introduction to Security Skills. They also select courses from the communications and general education lists, totaling 252 hours of study. Semester 2 focuses on human rights, social justice, and advocacy, with courses such as Human Rights Social Justice and Advocacy in Community Justice and Corrections, Interviewing, Interpersonal Communication and Professional Response, Observation, Documentation and Report Writing in Corrections, and Understanding Deviant Behaviour and Criminal Motivations. Students continue with communications and general education courses, completing another 252 hours. In Semester 3, students advance their knowledge with Career Resource Development, Indigenous Justice: Advocacy and Community Development, Inclusive Correctional Practices, Programming, Planning and Reintegration, and Youth Justice Interventions, alongside a general education course, for a total of 252 hours. Semester 4 includes Wellness and Resiliency in Community Justice and Corrections 2, Crisis Management and Behaviour Intervention, Substance Abuse Management, and a Field Placement Seminar. The final component is a 240-hour immersive Field Placement in Community and Justice Services, providing practical, hands-on experience essential for career readiness. Including all academic, seminar, communications, general education, and placement hours, the program totals 1150 hours, ensuring students develop both the theoretical knowledge and applied skills necessary to excel in community justice and corrections roles.
