COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering Technician program provides students with a comprehensive, hands-on education focused on preparing them for roles in infrastructure construction and project support. Over four semesters, students follow a structured curriculum that integrates technical theory with practical application. In the first semester, students are introduced to civil engineering physics, construction practices, surveying, CAD drafting, and foundational math, along with essential communication skills. Semester two builds on these foundations with courses in quantity estimation, material testing, municipal construction codes, and advanced surveying, culminating in a co-op work term that allows students to gain valuable field experience. In the third semester, students advance into 3D CAD drafting, construction materials and methods, strength of materials, and project management, while also completing two general education electives to broaden their knowledge base. The final semester emphasizes geotechnical analysis, stormwater management, highway construction, bridge systems, and GIS technology. This well-rounded training ensures that graduates are equipped to support civil engineering projects through surveying, testing, estimation, and project coordination. The program’s emphasis on applied learning, reinforced by a co-op placement, enables students to graduate job-ready for technician roles in construction, consulting, and public works sectors. Total instructional hours amount to 1,099, with an additional 560 hours of co-op experience.
