COURSE CURRICULUM

The Architectural Technician program spans four semesters with a total of 1,358 instructional hours, followed by two co-op work terms totaling 1,120 hours, offering students a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. In Semester 1, students build foundational skills through courses such as Architectural Design - Fundamentals, Architectural Drafting 1, Drawing for Architecture, Construction Technology - Structures, Surveying, and Extended Math for Construction, along with studies in health and safety and a communications course, totaling 350 hours. Semester 2 deepens their technical proficiency with courses like Quantity Surveying 1, Architectural Design - Residential, Architectural Drafting 2, and an introduction to codes, standards, and the legal aspects of construction in Ontario, alongside a second communications course, adding up to 336 hours. Semester 3 focuses on commercial design with Quantity Surveying 2, Architectural Design - Commercial, Architectural Drafting 3, Building Envelope Technology, and Statics, plus two general education electives, for another 336 hours. In the final semester, students study sustainable solutions, Building Information Modeling (BIM), project management, building code applications, and environmental impacts of architecture, supported by one more general education course. After completing the academic portion, students undertake two paid co-op work terms, allowing them to apply their knowledge in real-world settings and gain valuable industry experience.
