COURSE CURRICULUM

The Practical Nursing program is structured over five semesters, providing a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and clinical experience to prepare students for nursing careers. In Semester 1, students build foundational skills through courses such as Introduction to Health and Wellness, Gerontological Nursing, Nursing Skills, Anatomy and Physiology, and an introduction to the nursing profession. Communication and general education courses complement these core subjects, totaling 378 hours. Semester 2 focuses on advancing professional nursing skills and knowledge, with courses like Professional Expectations in Nursing Practice, Anatomy and Physiology II, Health Assessment, Pharmacology, and Mental Health Nursing. Students also participate in their first practical nursing clinical placement, offering 112 hours of hands-on experience. This semester totals 420 hours. Semester 3 deepens students' understanding of complex health conditions through Pathophysiology, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Pharmacology, and Maternal/Child Nursing, paired with a clinical placement providing 168 hours of practical experience, totaling 322 hours. In Semester 4, students prepare for professional practice with courses such as Transition to RPN Practice, advanced Pathophysiology, Nursing in the Community, and Medical-Surgical Nursing focusing on acute conditions. This semester includes another 168-hour clinical placement and general education courses, totaling 406 hours. The final Semester 5 is dedicated entirely to a 450-hour practical nursing praxis, a comprehensive clinical placement designed to consolidate learning and prepare students for real-world nursing practice. Across all five semesters, students engage in a total of 1976 hours of education and training, blending classroom instruction, simulation, and extensive clinical placements to ensure readiness for professional nursing roles.
