COURSE CURRICULUM

The Hairstyling diploma program offers a comprehensive, fast-tracked education completed over three semesters in just one year. The curriculum is designed to progressively build student skills from foundational to advanced levels, ensuring graduates are workforce-ready upon completion. In Semester 1, students are introduced to preparatory hair procedures, treatments, and essential theory such as health and safety, professional ethics, and client services. Practical training begins with basic hairstyling, cutting, and colouring techniques, complemented by communication and general education courses for a well-rounded learning experience. Semester 2 advances student proficiency through intermediate instruction in cutting, styling, colouring, and lightening techniques. Additional training in permanent waving, hair additions, and salon entrepreneurship helps students begin to develop a strong industry presence. A general education elective supports broader critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. In the final semester, students apply their cumulative skills in a salon clinic environment and focus on advanced-level cutting, colouring, styling, and texture services, including relaxing and smoothing techniques. This semester emphasizes real-world salon readiness with a course on industry preparation that helps students transition from classroom to professional practice. General education electives throughout the program support the development of transferable skills. With a total of 1,526 hours, including extensive hands-on training, graduates are well prepared to challenge the provincial certification exam and pursue employment in salons, spas, or as independent hairstylists.
