COURSE CURRICULUM

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) program is structured as a full-time, two-semester course sequence totaling 714 hours, designed to prepare students for supportive roles in healthcare settings. In Semester 1, students complete 294 hours focused on foundational skills including PSW Laboratory Skills, Community Care, Palliative Care, Human Structure and Function, and Professional Foundations. Alongside these courses, students select a communications course and a general education course to enhance their interpersonal and critical thinking skills. Semester 2 builds on this foundation with 420 hours of advanced study covering Health Challenges and Continuing Care, Mental Health Challenges, and two intensive Professional Practice courses that provide extensive hands-on clinical experience. The program’s clinical placements are integral to developing practical skills in delivering compassionate, person-centered care across diverse environments such as long-term care, private homes, and acute care facilities. Throughout the program, students learn to assist clients with daily living, promote their independence, and effectively communicate within healthcare teams. The combination of theory, lab work, and real-world practice ensures graduates are well-prepared to enter the workforce as competent, empathetic Personal Support Workers.
