COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Laboratory Assistant program’s full-time Fall intake is structured over two semesters, totaling 770 hours of coursework and clinical experience. In the first semester, students complete 294 hours focusing on foundational knowledge and essential skills. Courses include Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical Terminology, which provide a thorough understanding of the human body and relevant clinical language. Students also engage in practical labs such as Specimen Collection and Histo-Cyto Specimen Collection, gaining hands-on experience in sample handling. Medical Laboratory Mathematics helps develop the quantitative skills necessary for lab work. Quality Assurance and Control, as well as Lab Equipment and Safety courses, ensure students understand laboratory standards and safe practices. Additionally, students choose one communications course to enhance their professional communication skills.In the second semester, students complete 476 hours of more advanced study and practical training. Molecular Techniques introduces modern lab methods, while specialized courses in Hematology, Microbiology, and Chemistry lab techniques deepen students’ technical abilities in various lab disciplines. An Introduction to Transfusion course prepares students for blood-related procedures. The semester culminates with a 210-hour Clinical Internship, providing real-world experience in medical laboratory settings under supervision. Students also select one general education course to broaden their knowledge base. This comprehensive program equips students with the practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional competencies necessary to work effectively as Medical Laboratory Assistants in diverse healthcare environments.
