COURSE CURRICULUM

The Small Engine and Powersports Technician program follows a structured, full-time course sequence beginning in the Fall semester, totaling 748 hours of instruction and hands-on training. In Semester 1, students complete 294 hours across foundational courses such as Mathematics Techniques, Workshop Procedures, Engine Fuel Systems Principles, Engine Electrical Systems Diagnostics, Engine Function and Design, Basic Electrical Principles, and Health and Safety Fundamentals, each offered at 42 hours. This semester establishes the core technical knowledge and safety practices essential for the field. Semester 2 builds on this foundation with 454 hours of advanced and specialized training. Courses include Service and Information Techniques, Diesel and Overhead Valve Engines, and a range of Powersports-focused subjects such as Outdoor Power Tool Fundamentals, ATV Repair Principles, Principles of Residential Grounds Maintenance Equipment, and Snowmobile Repair Principles. Students also complete a communications course selected during registration to strengthen workplace communication skills. A key component of the second semester is a 160-hour field placement (SENG 1004), which provides real-world industry experience and professional networking opportunities. This well-rounded program combines academic instruction with hands-on learning to prepare graduates for immediate employment or further specialization in the Small Engine and Powersports industries.
