COURSE CURRICULUM

The Marine Engine Mechanic program follows a structured, full-time course sequence designed for students entering in the Fall semester. In Semester 1, students complete 294 hours across foundational courses that include Mathematics Techniques, Workshop Procedures, Engine Fuel Systems Principles, Engine Electrical Systems Diagnostics, Engine Function and Design, Basic Electrical Principles, and Health and Safety Fundamentals—each course consisting of 42 hours. This semester builds a strong base in both theoretical concepts and hands-on technical skills. Semester 2 expands on these foundations with 454 total hours of instruction, featuring advanced and industry-specific courses such as Service and Information Techniques, Alternate Marine Propulsion Systems, Recreational Boat Principles, Stern Drive System Repair Principles, Outboard Motor Repair Principles, and Diesel and Overhead Valve Engines. Students also complete a communications course selected from an approved list during registration, and participate in a 160-hour field placement (MARE 1020), providing valuable real-world experience in the marine industry. Altogether, the program totals 748 hours, blending academic instruction with practical training to prepare graduates for immediate employment or further specialization within the marine sector.
