COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electrical Techniques program is structured over two semesters, providing a comprehensive foundation in electrical theory and practical skills required for entry into the electrical industry. In the first semester, students begin with Introduction to Technical Drafting, which introduces fundamental drafting skills essential for interpreting electrical plans. Electrical Trade Practices and DC Circuit Fundamentals build the core technical knowledge needed to understand electrical systems. Environmental Health and Safety ensures students are well-versed in workplace safety standards, while Mathematics Techniques supports the applied math skills necessary for electrical calculations. A Communications course is also included to develop effective professional communication skills. This semester totals 266 hours of instruction.In the second semester, students advance their knowledge through courses such as Electrical Systems and Control, Electrical Installations, and Electronics 1, focusing on practical applications and the integration of electrical components and systems. The Prints and Electrical Code course teaches students to interpret electrical drawings and adhere to the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, ensuring work is compliant with regulatory standards. Basic Electricity further reinforces essential electrical concepts. A General Education course rounds out the semester, broadening students’ knowledge and critical thinking skills. The second semester also comprises 266 hours of instruction.Altogether, the program consists of 532 hours of instruction designed to prepare students for employment as electrical apprentices or further post-secondary education. Students gain a solid grounding in both theoretical concepts and hands-on practices, enabling them to meet industry standards and safety requirements.
