COURSE CURRICULUM

The Carpentry program is structured over two semesters, designed to provide students with comprehensive training in residential construction and carpentry skills. In the first semester, students begin with foundational courses such as Carpentry Fundamentals and Applied Carpentry Fundamentals, totaling 140 hours of hands-on learning. They also study Formwork and Framing, gaining essential knowledge for constructing building frameworks. Blueprint Reading Fundamentals and Residential Construction Fundamentals provide critical theoretical understanding necessary for interpreting construction plans and project requirements. Construction Site Practices introduces students to safety standards and workplace protocols, while Math for Wood Trades equips them with the necessary mathematical skills used in the trade. A general education course is also included to develop broader skills and knowledge. The first semester totals 392 hours. In the second semester, the focus shifts to more advanced topics such as Finish Carpentry Fundamentals and Interior and Exterior Finishes, each offering 84 hours of practical training. Advanced Framing and Sustainability prepares students to incorporate energy-efficient and environmentally responsible building techniques. CAD Drafting and Blueprint Reading Applications further develop technical drawing and plan interpretation skills. A communications course is included to enhance workplace communication skills. The second semester consists of 364 hours, making the total program hours 756. This program balances hands-on experience with theoretical knowledge, preparing students for successful careers in residential construction and carpentry by providing practical skills, safety training, and an understanding of sustainable building practices.
