COURSE CURRICULUM

The Cabinetmaking program is structured over three semesters, offering a comprehensive and practical approach to developing skills for the woodworking and cabinetmaking industry. In Semester 1, students begin with foundational courses such as Hand and Power Tools, Cabinetmaking Applications, Finishing Processes, Joinery and Fastening, Technical Drawings, and Math for Wood Trades, totaling 238 hours. These courses introduce essential tools, materials, and techniques used in the trade while emphasizing safety, precision, and planning. Semester 2 builds on these foundations with advanced topics such as Cabinet Construction and Installation, Finishing Applications, Construction Applications, Trim and Mouldings, Cabinetmaking Materials, and AutoCAD and Cabinetmaking Software. A communications course is also included, bringing the total to 280 hours. Students continue developing practical skills in a hands-on environment, learning to interpret technical drawings and use industry-specific software for design and layout. In Semester 3, students apply their skills in more complex and independent projects with courses like Preproduction Planning, Advanced Projects, Furniture Design, Stair and Film Construction Fundamentals, Advanced Finishing, and Construction Detailing. A general education course complements this final semester, contributing to a total of 252 hours. Across the program’s 770 total hours, students gain a balanced blend of technical knowledge, creative application, and real-world project experience, preparing them for a range of opportunities in the cabinetmaking and woodworking industries.
