COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program at Georgian College provides a comprehensive, eight-semester curriculum designed to prepare students for professional practice as Registered Nurses. The program combines theoretical instruction, laboratory practice, and extensive clinical placements, totaling 2,299 hours. In the early semesters, students build foundational knowledge in anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, microbiology, pharmacology, and relational nursing practice. Courses also integrate core concepts in nursing ethics, professional standards, and person-centered care, emphasizing the importance of understanding diverse communities and populations. Beginning in Semester 2, students participate in clinical placements that progressively increase in complexity and responsibility, giving them hands-on experience in real healthcare environments.By mid-program, students explore advanced topics such as acute and chronic health challenges, gerontology, mental health, Indigenous health, and family health across the lifespan. Clinical placements during these semesters focus on populations with persistent, acute, and complex needs. In the final semesters, the curriculum shifts toward leadership, digital health, genomics-informed nursing, and global health perspectives. Students complete a capstone project and a major clinical synthesis placement that integrates all their learning, preparing them for autonomous, safe, and ethical nursing practice.Throughout the program, students also complete required non-core courses in psychology, sociology, statistics, and multidisciplinary research to enhance their critical thinking and holistic understanding of health. The integration of research and evidence-based practice ensures students are prepared not only for direct patient care but also for leadership, advocacy, and continued professional development. Graduates of this program are equipped to work in hospitals, long-term care, community settings, and other health organizations, serving diverse populations including the elderly, Indigenous communities, and individuals with mental health needs. The program’s structure ensures a strong alignment between academic theory, clinical experience, and professional nursing competencies.
