COURSE CURRICULUM

This comprehensive four-semester program offers in-person delivery and covers a wide range of topics essential for environmental planning and sustainable development. In the first semester, students study Canadian governance and geography, communications for environmental practitioners, data management, environmental protection, ecology, and Indigenous studies, laying a strong foundation. The second semester builds on this with field trips and courses in GIS applications, human populations and the environment, planning introduction, legislation, natural heritage planning, and soil and ecosystem studies. The third semester focuses on engaged sustainable development, Indigenous communities and environmental planning, modern practices, advanced natural heritage planning, spatial analysis, and urban and rural planning. The final semester emphasizes practical experience through advanced environmental planning case studies and a substantial applied project, supported by courses in land and infrastructure development and applied project planning. Students gain vital skills in spatial analysis, legislation, project management, and Indigenous relations, preparing them to effectively contribute to environmental planning and sustainable land use development. This hands-on, multidisciplinary approach ensures graduates are well-equipped to meet the complex challenges of environmental stewardship and planning in Canada’s diverse landscapes.
