COURSE CURRICULUM

The Welding Fabrication Technician program at Fleming College offers a comprehensive, hands-on education in advanced welding and fabrication techniques over four in-person semesters. In Semester 1, students build foundational skills through courses like Shielded Metal Arc Welding I, Semi-Automatic Processes I, Thermal Processes I, Print Reading, and Trade Calculations. Emphasis is placed on tool safety and basic drafting, along with communications and computer skills tailored for trades professionals. Semester 2 deepens technical knowledge with training in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding I, Semi-Automatic Processes II, and advanced blueprint reading. Students also develop their trades portfolios and continue learning safe welding practices and calculations. Semester 3 introduces specialized topics such as metallurgy, welding inspection, project management, and layout and fitting practices. Students refine their skills through Shielded Metal Arc Welding III, Semi-Automatic Processes III, and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding II. In the final semester, students apply their learning through practical courses like Applied Layout & Fabrication and Managing Welding Projects. They also explore entrepreneurship, CAD, and CNC programming, gaining exposure to modern welding technologies. This semester includes advanced practice in Semi-Automatic Processes IV, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding III, and Shielded Metal Arc Welding IV. Throughout the program, students complete multiple General Education electives to broaden their knowledge. Graduates will leave with the skills and certifications aligned with Level III of the in-school welding apprenticeship, well-prepared for careers in fabrication, construction, or manufacturing. The program also offers the opportunity to earn multiple Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certifications to further enhance employability.
