COURSE CURRICULUM

The Resources Drilling Technician diploma at Fleming College offers a comprehensive four-semester curriculum combining environmental science fundamentals with specialized drilling training. In the first semester, students build a strong base through courses such as applied mathematics, communication skills, earth and atmosphere, ecology, field skills, geomatics, and Indigenous studies, helping them understand environmental systems and develop academic and practical abilities. The second semester introduces core drilling skills, including air rotary drilling, environmental and geotechnical drilling, rig maintenance, and soil studies, along with career preparation and advanced communication. In the third semester, students move into advanced drilling techniques such as diamond core drilling, foundation drilling, and horizontal directional drilling, while also learning hydraulics, well construction, and completing a general education course. The final semester focuses on advanced technical expertise with courses like advanced hydraulics, drilling pump systems, geothermal systems, health and safety practices, rock studies, and top hammer drilling, along with another general education elective. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, safety, and real-world application throughout, ensuring students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience needed for careers in multiple drilling sectors such as construction, environmental, and resource exploration.
