COURSE CURRICULUM

The Pharmacy Technician program is delivered over four semesters in a hybrid format, combining online and in-person learning to provide comprehensive training in pharmacy practice. In the first semester, students study foundational topics such as Anatomy & Physiology I, Communications for Health Professionals, Introduction to Pharmacy Practice, Pharmacy Mathematics, Pharmacy Products, Professionalism in Pharmacy, and Introduction to Indigenous Studies. These courses establish essential knowledge for understanding the human body, pharmacy operations, and professional standards. The second semester builds on this foundation with Anatomy & Physiology II, Applied Pharmaceutical Calculations, Concepts in Health Care, Pharmacology I, Pharmacy Software Fundamentals, Safe Medication Practices, and Standards of Practice and Legislation for Pharmacy Technicians. Students also complete a general education elective, with the option to choose an Indigenous Perspectives course for designation. The third semester focuses on practical and clinical skills, including Clinical Pathology for Pharmacy Technicians, Comprehensive Exam Preparation, Dispensing in Retail settings, Drug Distribution, Introduction to Sterile Preparations, Pharmacology II, and Field Placement in Community Pharmacy alongside field preparation courses. In the final semester, students further develop expertise in Compounding, Dispensing in Hospital settings, Sterile Preparations, and Long Term Care Pharmacy. This semester also includes a comprehensive exam, a second field placement in Institutional Pharmacy, and associated preparation. General education electives continue to broaden students’ knowledge and skills. Overall, the program combines theory, practical skills, and hands-on experience to prepare students for successful careers as pharmacy technicians, ensuring they meet industry standards and can contribute effectively to healthcare teams.
