COURSE CURRICULUM

The Paramedic program at Fleming College is delivered over four in-person semesters and is designed to provide students with the critical knowledge and hands-on experience needed to excel in pre-hospital emergency care. In Semester 1, students begin with foundational courses such as Ambulance Operations and Driving Skills, Anatomy & Physiology I, and Patient Care I with corresponding lab sessions to build basic clinical competencies. Communication skills, healthcare concepts, and an introduction to psychology complement technical training. Semester 2 builds on this with advanced anatomy and physiology, Patient Care II and labs, pharmacology, abnormal psychology, and the first clinical placement, providing real-world experience in a healthcare setting. In Semester 3, the curriculum advances to include Patient Care III and labs, Advanced Paramedic Skills, a second clinical rotation, crisis management, and legal and ethical issues in healthcare. This semester also includes an Ambulance Field Experience to reinforce field-readiness and professionalism. The final semester focuses on consolidation and preparation for entry into the workforce, featuring a comprehensive theoretical and lab review, Paramedic Consolidation with 360 hours of field placement, and a course on Research, Profession and Practice. A General Education elective is included to support a broader understanding of society and critical thinking. By the end of the program, students are well-prepared to write the Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant (A-EMCA) exam and begin a career as a primary care paramedic in Ontario, equipped with the skills, knowledge, and real-world training needed to deliver high-quality emergency medical services.
