COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fish and Wildlife Technician diploma at Fleming College provides a comprehensive four-semester curriculum that blends environmental science with hands-on field training. In the first semester, students develop foundational knowledge through courses such as applied mathematics, environmental communication, earth and atmosphere, ecology, geomatics, field skills, and Indigenous studies, helping them understand ecosystems and basic research methods. The second semester builds on this with more specialized subjects including aquatic ecosystems, environmental chemistry, plant identification, wildlife observation, and career preparation, focusing on species identification and environmental monitoring. In the third semester, students engage in intensive fieldwork and advanced topics such as fisheries management, freshwater ecology, wetland studies, habitat assessment, and wildlife monitoring, gaining practical experience in techniques like fish sampling, bird studies, and ecological data collection. The final semester focuses on advanced concepts including wildlife ecology and management, freshwater biology, GIS applications, statistics, animal diseases, and sustainable fisheries practices.
