COURSE CURRICULUM

The Customs and Border Services program offers a comprehensive, in-person learning experience over multiple semesters, equipping students with the practical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in border operations. In the first semester, students build a foundation in communications tailored to law and justice professionals, alongside essential courses such as Customs Operations I focused on commercial importation, Customs Valuation, and Enforcement I covering primary processing. Complementary subjects include Immigration law, Mathematics for Customs, and Tariff Classification, while also integrating Technology for Human Service Professionals and Introduction to Indigenous Studies to provide a well-rounded perspective. The second semester advances student expertise with Customs Operations II, emphasizing accounting and taxation, and Enforcement II, which covers secondary processing procedures. Foundations in Customs deepen the understanding of regulations, while Tariff Treatment expands tariff knowledge. Transportation I prepares students for the logistics side of border services. Throughout these semesters, students engage with both theoretical frameworks and practical applications, including scrutinizing documentation and applying customs legislation. The program also incorporates General Education electives, enhancing critical thinking and communication skills necessary for public and private sector roles. By the end of the program, students are trained to handle the complexities of cross-border trade, enforcement techniques, and government regulations efficiently. This blend of legal knowledge, enforcement practice, and operational expertise prepares graduates for the dynamic and expanding field of customs and border services, where they contribute to national security and facilitate international commerce.
