COURSE CURRICULUM

This program offers a comprehensive education in computer technology, focusing on programming, hardware, software support, networking, and security. In the first semester, students build a strong foundation by studying communications for business and IT professionals, computer hardware basics, and fundamental electricity concepts. They are also introduced to current cyber trends and digital evidence, operating systems, scripting fundamentals, and foundational math skills tailored for computing. The second semester deepens this knowledge with courses on information security and risk management, electronics, networking concepts, Linux operating systems, and advanced scripting applications. Students also complete a general education elective to broaden their perspectives. The third semester focuses on agile project management, essential for IT teamwork and project success, along with courses in computer and network security, digital electronics system design, embedded systems, and programming in C++. Students continue to develop their math skills and complete another general education elective. The final semester emphasizes applied learning, where students undertake real-world projects to showcase their skills while serving the community. They also study cloud computing provisioning and security, database applications with a focus on secure implementation, and embedded systems integration, reflecting current industry demands. Advanced mathematics and business soft skills, including interpersonal relations and career readiness, round out the curriculum. Throughout the program, students engage in hands-on labs and practical exercises that reinforce theoretical knowledge and prepare them for industry certifications such as A+ and Cisco Networking. Graduates leave equipped with a broad set of transferable skills, ready to troubleshoot and configure hardware and software systems, manage security risks, and contribute effectively in professional IT environments. This program is nationally accredited and recognized by the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists, providing a solid foundation for careers in computer engineering technology and opportunities to continue studies in a three-year diploma program.
