COURSE CURRICULUM

The Hairstyling program is delivered over three semesters in a hybrid format, combining online and in-person learning to provide flexibility and hands-on experience. In Semester 1, students build a strong foundation with courses such as Communications I for Health Professionals, Foundations of Colour, Session Styling, and Shape, complemented by a Guest Artist Experience to expose students to industry insights. Marketing, Branding, and Social Media skills are introduced to help students promote their personal brand, alongside Product Knowledge and Customer Care to prepare for client interactions. An Introduction to Indigenous Studies is also included to foster cultural awareness. Semester 2 shifts focus to practical application in the Academy Salon I course, where students practice hairstyling in a real salon environment. Intermediate level courses in Colour, Session Styling, and Shape deepen technical skills, while a Multicultural Hair and Cultural Sensitivity course enhances understanding of diverse hair types and client needs. Customer Care and Retail Expertise supports students in delivering professional service. Semester 3 continues with Academy Salon II for advanced hands-on training. Students refine their expertise in Advanced Colour, Session Styling, and Shape courses. Business Planning and Entrepreneurship teaches essential skills for running a successful hairstyling career or business. Makeup Artistry is included to expand creative capabilities. General Education electives throughout the program enrich communication and critical thinking skills. Together, these courses equip students with technical expertise, creative skills, and business knowledge, preparing them to excel as licensed professional hairstylists in a dynamic and diverse industry.
